HONOLULU, HI – Since 2021, Kapilina and other surrounding communities have been exposed to and suffered from contaminated water.

In response to the continuing need for bottled water, the Hawaiʻi State Youth Commission (HiYC) is proud to collaborate with Shut Down Red Hill Mutual Aid in their biggest water distribution to date.

This Saturday, in front of Kapilina Beach Homes, from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM, these organizations will be distributing four full pallets of bottled water, dozens of five-gallon water jugs, and free water dispensers. The line will begin on the makai side of the security checkpoint in the lot at 5095 Iroquois Point.

“Along with water distribution, the HiYC hopes that this event will build trust and relationships with the people of Kapilina to demonstrate that the youth of Hawaiʻi are concerned about their community and health of Hawaiʻi’s water supply,” said Leanne Gillespie, executive director, Office of Youth Services. “The commission believes that this project to support and engage with the community will better inform their advocacy on public health and other issues.”
