DOH News Release: Hawai’i Department of Health issues red placard to Cheeseburger In Paradise

WAILUKU, HI– The Hawai‘i Department of Health (DOH) Food Safety Branch issued a red placard closing Cheeseburger In Paradise during a complaint inspection about lack of hot water on April 12, 2023. The food establishment was closed for lack of hot water at the dishwashing machine and not having another method available to wash and degrease kitchenware. It was determined to close the restaurant to protect public health since proper sanitization couldn’t be ensured. The restaurant is owned and operated by Cheeseburger In Paradise Inc. and is located at 811 Front Street, Lahaina.

 

A follow-up inspection is scheduled for April 14, 2023.

The Department of Health’s Food Safety Branch protects and promotes the health of Hawai‘i residents and visitors through education of food industry workers and regulation of food establishments state-wide. The branch conducts routine health inspections of food establishments where food products are prepared, manufactured, distributed, or sold.

The branch also investigates sources of food borne illnesses and potential adulteration. It is also responsible for mitigating the effects of these incidents to prevent any future occurrences. The Department of Health’s food safety specialists strive to work with business owners, food service workers, and the food industry to ensure safe food preparation practices and sanitary conditions.
