Governor Green worked with the Attorney General’s Office and the Department of Budget and Finance to release $50 million in stalled grants-in-aid. Many of the nearly 180 nonprofit organizations serve vulnerable populations throughout our state.

Beneficiaries of the larger ($500,000 or more) grants include:

  • Special Olympics Hawai‘i
  • YMCA
  • Rehabilitation Hospital of the Pacific
  • Maui Economic Development Board
  • Hāmākua-Kohala Health
  • Adult Friends for Youth

Our administration convened a news conference to honor the important work of the organizations that provide much-needed community services, and this occasion also resulted in a poi dog’s adoption. Sweetie, who served as an ambassador for the Hawaiian Humane Society at the event, won the hearts of the Tokumoto family and was adopted within 72 hours of her appearance with Governor Green in media coverage.
